GPA Cosmetology students recently took a school trip to the International Beauty Show (IBS) in New York. The show offered beauty students and professionals’ access to over 500 exhibitors who offered special demonstrations, educational classes, runway showings, discount pricing on thousands of tools and products, and amazing networking opportunities!

IBS New York is the longest-running professionals-only trade show in the nation and draws almost 63,000 salon owners and beauty professionals who are passionate, determined and eager to build their careers and increase their profits. These professionals rely on IBS New York to learn about the latest trends and techniques from the industry’s leading educators, platform artists and exhibitors.

GPA Cosmotology students were able to gain access to industry gurus from around the globe and participated in hair, nail, makeup and business classes offered at the event. The students watched first-hand as industry legends performed hair and make-up demonstrations of a variety of techniques and products on the various stages. They also had the opportunity attend “Hands-On Workshops” in hair and make-up.

Following are some comments from the student’s experience at the hair show:

I enjoyed seeing all of the different hairstyles, makeup and dress styles the models showed us that are popular for 2014. The music they played was energetic. I liked that the exhibitors took you through class to show new styles, and the diversity of products presented at the show.

I liked the hair models. They all had different hair styles that amazed me. I also liked the interesting variety of makeup that the models wore with such vibrant and unusual colors, and the amazing natural colors too.

I enjoyed the show performances and all of the various hairstyles, makeup lines, body makeup and jewelry. I got to see what’s happening in 2014. It was a great presentation, and I look forward to attending again next year. This was my first trip and it was awesome.

I liked the visuals and brightness of the decorations that were set up in the many exhibit booths. I especially enjoyed the art of the body paint on the models. I enjoyed watching the models getting their hair transformed into styles, and then walking the runway for everyone to see the style. I had fun taking ‘selfie’ pictures, enjoyed the personal time with my friends; I even modeled some makeup myself!
