The new Music Production studio has fast become one of the busiest instructional spaces at Garfield Park Academy. In it, students have the opportunity to make and record original music and find their creative voice.

Through music and lyric writing, digital sound creation, audio sampling, mixing, and editing, students work collaboratively to create soundscapes.

The learning that goes on in the studio is a natural fit with The Teaching Family Model because it encourages growth through collaboration and positive relationships.

Students develop problem-solving skills and learn to “think outside the box” in order to solve complex challenges, boosting their confidence. The studio tools engage students in the making of music without the need for them to first learn to play an instrument. That experience sometimes encourages students to take the deeper dive into music as a hobby or profession.

Performing in front of a microphone can be difficult for many students, but when they record and study their own voices, it helps them accommodate feedback, and improve communication with others.
