Ten students from our school supported by staff recently attended the Rowan College at BCC Job Fair held at the Kennedy Center in Willingboro.
The students ranged in age from 16 – 21 and are currently 11th and 12th graders at Garfield Park Academy. More than 60 employers were represented at the fair. Students had the chance to meet with potential employers to discuss job opportunities and share their resumes and experiences.
In preparation for the Job Fair, each student completed a resume and received training in social skills in order to better promote their success.
The students were also instructed in proper “Dress for Success” clothing and also Self-Introduction and Interview Techniques. The students were supported by staff who assisted the students until they were comfortable with the process.
It was a great day with so many students effectively demonstrating the lessons from the classroom in a public setting.
This is our second Job Fair for the year and we continue to look for new opportunities to work with our students in community settings.
