On May 25, 2016, Brittany Harmening was installed as the new president elect for the West Jersey Reading Council. West Jersey Reading Council strives to promote literacy in Burlington and Camden counties through professional development, active membership, partnership with the International Literacy Association and the New Jersey Literacy Association, and dissemination of pertinent research and practices.
Brittany has been a member of WJRC since the Fall of 2007. She has attended their Fall Conference, which is held at Pennsauken High School, numerous times as well as their Spring Conference, held at Lumberton District. In 2012, Brittany became a building representative for her former school and has since served in the same position as an information liaison for the staff at Garfield Park Academy.
Just this past school year, Brittany was invited by the council’s president to join WJRC’s Executive Board. In that position she has played a important role improving the technology uses of the group. Brittany, along with other members, helped to assemble the new list of active members for the president’s report to honor council and also helped with the interview process of the organization’s new web master.
As president elect, Brittany will serve as the President’s, Debora Reca, right hand person. She will help the President to carry out any and all tasks, including the organization’s Annual Fall Conference, trips to Columbia University, and other WJRC events to be held throughout the year.
