Garfield Park Academy to be on a Full Remote Schedule for One Week Following Spring Break.
Garfield Park Academy plans to be on a full remote schedule for one week following spring break. This means we will be on a full remote learning for the week of Monday April 12th, 2021 through Friday April 16th, 2021 and returning to the building for those on hybrid learning on Monday April 19th, 2021. We are expecting all students and staff will be working remotely from their home state, so anyone traveling will have had time to appropriately quarantine before returning to the building. If anyone is traveling, we are asking that they return to their home state by Saturday, April 10th, 2021. If anyone travels outside their home state after that date, further quarantine will be required. Please be advised that travel between New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania and Delaware are exempt from travel quarantine at this time. Read the full letter notice, sent March 4, 2021 – [PDF].

GPA’s RETURN TO SCHOOL PLAN, September 2020 Opening
Garfield Park Academy plans to reopen in September with a hybrid model of learning unless we receive new guidance from the Governor or the Department of Health. Parents are choosing between a facility-based and remote learning option or fully remote (virtual) instruction. This will continue for the 2020-2021 school year. GPA is prepared at all times to switch instantly to all remote learning, and in response to the Department of Health and the Governor’s Office if necessary. The school is constantly equipped with 30 days of packets to accompany remote instruction for added support. This includes the provision of related services, and especially group and individual counseling, as well as family support.

Governor Announces Schools Will Remain Closed for Remainder of the School Year. Governor Murphy has announced that all NJ school buildings will remain closed for in-person instruction for the remainder of the 2019-2020 School year. All student and faculty will continue with remote learning. Private schools with longer academic years will remain closed until at least June 30th. Executive Order #104 signed on March 16th, which closed schools indefinitely, remains in effect.
“I had hoped that we could get back to a sense of of normalcy by allowing our children to return to the schools they love and to be with their friends and classmates. But the reality is that we cannot safely reopen our schools to provide student and families or faculty and staff the confidence needed to allow for a return to in-person instruction,” the Governor said.

Dear Parents/Guardians, Students, Faculty and Sending School Districts:
Garfield Park Academy will be closed effective immediately and will reopen April 20, 2020.
Garfield Park Academy has put necessary measures in place to ensure we can deliver equitable access to instruction for all students. Our plan is available at the link below, as submitted to the Burlington County Office of Education.
More specifically, we have prepared 30 days of work in all subject areas. All our students have Gmail accounts through the school. We are following a homebound schedule in order for each student to receive his/her appropriate credits. Each student packet will include their individual log-ins for Lexia, Dreambox, Learning Ally and other online resources. We are supplying both print outs and online learning for all academics and therapeutic supports in order to give the highest level of academic and therapeutic supports as possible.
As this is an evolving situation, we continue to monitor guidance documents from the CDC, the Burlington County Health Department and New Jersey Department of Education to determine the best steps to take in our school and we will continue to communicate these measures to everyone. Please watch our website for updates.
As a reminder, the following are a few things that you can do to help reduce the spread of viruses in our school and community:
- Cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue or sleeve, not your hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water. Use alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. Hand sanitizing wipes are located in every classroom and sanitizing dispensers are placed throughout our school.
- Stay home if you are sick and avoid sick people.
Please accept our appreciation for working with us to keep our students and staff virus free.
Sincerely,
Dr. Steven Morse,
Executive Director/Superintendent
