The Automotive Center at Garfield Park Academy was recently dedicated as The Galeone Automotive Training Center, named for Pasqual Galeone, who served as the director of GPA’s automobile technology program. Galeone supervised instruction there for hundreds of teens and young adults—mostly men—interested in exploring a career in auto maintenance. The 90-year-old Galeone was humbled. [...]
Dr. Steven Morse, Superintendent of Garfield Park Academy, was recently honored by the international Teaching-Family Association for his progressive approach to the education of students with disabilities. The award recognizes an individual for significant contributions to the development, refinement and implementation of the Teaching-Family Model, an evidence-based approach to treatment for at-risk youth.
This spring, Cohen wrote to Garfield Park Academy to express his gratitude for the support and intervention he received when he was a student there. “The school turned me around. They changed the expectations I have for myself,” he said.
Garfield Park Academy’s automotive program has received accreditation from the National Automotive Technicians Education Foundation (NATEF), and The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), making it the only state-approved private school for students with disabilities in New Jersey to have an accredited program.
Thanks to generous private donations, GPA’s Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) program has moved onto the School’s Willingboro campus. A new 8,000 square foot paddock is now in place on a grassy field behind the school, allowing the therapy horses to come directly to the campus.
GPA is getting all the energy it needs for its facilities at radically reduced costs! How? The School is home to a 1,200 panel, 284 kW solar farm recently installed on one-and-a quarter aces of its campus in Willingboro.

But if you ask students at Garfield Park Academy in Willingboro, NJ, they'll tell you about it as matter-of-factly as if it were today's math homework. Biofeedback is nothing new at the School; they’ve been using it there for nearly fifteen years in their clinical work with students.
